Look what arrived today Just testing out the HSS ... one of the main reasons I went this route strobe wise. NO ND FILTER!!! YES!!! lol I have a few shoots lined up... this is going to be fun. I need to assemble the 48" Rice Bowl and give it a try. The 12ft cheetah stand is really nice. Solid and I love how the legs lift up and go down... I have a big smile on my face

Congrats... post some shots when it all arrives. I thought about TTL as an option for other battery strobes and I just couldn't see me using it. Now... HSS... the strobe is going to live there.

Thanks,.

Mine arrives Monday. Looking forward to HSS with that much power - and being self contained. Have you shot much with your colt 45? What do you think of it?

Don't worry "hatch1921" I will. I too would love to see what the light quality is from the Colt 45. Make sure you go to the Cheetahstand User Group

Many thanks all.

I joined the user group, thank you for the link.

I'm anxious to give the gear a full run... soon enough I suppose.
I'll post some shots when I do.

Thanks again,
Hatch

48in Rice Bowl from Cheetahstand.com by hatch1921, on Flickr

Assembled the 48" Rice Bowl and the C-stand. Very nice C-stand ... I can't see me moving it much on location once it's in place. it's sturdy and well built.

Just a cellphone snap... the angle of the image makes the RB look like it's sagging... it isn't... the rods are doing their job.

I 'v had my CL600X a couple of days now and used it extensively today. No issues whatsoever!! I had to use the older 433mhz and RT16 to trigger but the trigger and receiver changed the power levels with no problem. Can't wait to receive my X1 Triggers!

I understand these lights are just recently released. Does anyone know of examples of Hss used for outdoor portraits with this strobe or it's variants? I am seeming to find very little at this point on the net.

How would you compare the Cheetah 600 to the rovelight I know the Cheetah is true HSS where as the Rovelight is hypersync I'm saving my pennies for the Cheetah 600 hopefully I will be able to get in on the May 20th order

SOLD both of the Rovelights for this unit and the X series. I was tired of having to deal with that RL finicky trigger. Now my one X1T-s trigger will operate my hotshoe flash, 360's and my CL600x, which to me is what I have been searching for!
I've heard that the RL is more powerful than the 600x but I do not plan on shooting at full power anyhow... The weight appears to be the same and would be top heavy on a medium stand. I would certainly recommend a heavy stand with sand bags.

Here is my new set up. Now just need to find some paying subjects, which are in short supply for a few months.

THIS is the first of 7 pages of evaluation I've put on my site related to the Cheetah/Godox/Adorama 600, X1T and TT685 including how it works with Sony TTL.

The first image on the summary page was shot in the sun with a 600 for fill.

Gear used --- first time out with the Cheetah CL-600X strobe / Cheetah 12ft Stand / Cheetah RB 120 Octa

A friend of mine was nice enough to come over and let me give the gear a test. I must say.... VERY HAPPY with the way the setup performed.

How I performed... not so hot.

Rusty... missed a bunch of stuff... bad framing... bad compositions... didn't adjust to allow for more DOF in certain situations... and on and on. So... it was still a success in my book as I can now pay attention to the things I missed and only grow from here. It's been 3 years since my last shoot.

HSS was great! Being able to shoot past 1/200th a second without an ND filter.... worth every $ I paid for the strobe/setup.

All in all, it was a fun day out...not a complete wash.... I suppose. Still working on some shots...

8 Just natural light in this one... she finally smiled... Picture #5 sums up most of her expressions for the shoot. She wasn't having it!

Below 1/256.
Speedlites and now the 600 and 360, when in TTL mode, will fire at a power setting lower than one can dial into the unit in M mode.

That's true below or above x sync speed.

I've been shooting some headshots for a make up artist. the 600, with a collapsible Cheetah QS beauty dish on it is about 2 feet from the subject, F8, ISO 100. TTL works like a charm. I'm not sure what the manual power setting would be but probably close to 1/128 or less.
