p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Which RRS shoe for 70-300L ??

Just got a 70-300L lens and ordered a mount ring for it.

The mount shoe foot measures 2.5" long, and RRS recommends the L84, which is 3.6" long; I've also heard that a "better" fit is the B82, which is 2.6" long.

Is there a reason for the longer recommendation? Does the L84 give extra support when the lens is extended?

I never have needed a ring mount for mine FWIW.

When I owned this lens, I didn't buy a tripod ring with it because the Canon version was too expensive. I also heard too many horror stories about 3rd party mounts scratching the lens barrel.

To answer your question, I would buy the RRS recommended plate for the 70-300L

IMHO, this fine lens is light enough to use handheld.

I prefer the L82 plate; the L84 is a bit too long for this tripod foot.
