Seems the hood chopping is ever more important if we don't get the smooth reflection app back in the a7r3. I may contact SK Grimes myself.

Just curious, why can't you use a screw in ND filter? I use a screw in CPL when conditions are right.

It's not that you can't, it's just a bit more of a pain with the hood petals. However, I also have large square filters that fit all my lenses from the loxia 21 and the 24-70GM. It's nice to be able to use one set of filters for all lenses. I use Lee-type filter holders.

Plus if you cut the hood you have access to put a step up ring to go bigger filters which you could also stack two filters without vignetting.

I did this myself hence the word Choppy that is tagged to this lens via our members here. I also happened to have a perfect copy. So you may hear that reference too when talking about the IQ. You may hear I got a copy as good as Choppy. There is a Choppy 1 in M mount and a Choppy 2 in E mount floating around here between members. I cut both there hoods off with a Dremel.

Today I have the Laowa 15 F2 which I really like.

Guy, will you let us know how you cut the petals?

I had the Choppy II and regret I sold it when all the hoopla of the Sony 12-24 came out. I bought another one back and it seems to have good corners too. Let me know if you sell your Laowa.

Quick cutting thought . I used gaffers tape to protect the lens side than put a hose clamp on to follow that line and cut. I think it’s in this thread. Also I put two filters rings on to protect from slipping into the lens. That one is a biggy

For me it gives the ability to use the Lee Seven5 filter holder with all my lenses.

What about 58mm screw in filters on this lens? Filter stack? The specs say that it does take them.

They have to be very slim to avoid vignetting.

I just sent mine to S.K. Grimes for hood removal. I wanted to use it with the Lee Seven5 filter system (which I use with most of my lenses)

I am considering buying a CV15/4.5 III E-mount and I'm wondering if anyone knows if Cosina has improved their quality control, esp. with regard to production of their Voigtlander lenses?

I’ve been able to stack two filters without hard vignette. Only certain filters will stack successfully though - slimmer the better.

I realize the lens is compact, but how does it compare with any of the excellent 16-35 zooms available?

I've been considering the 10 or 12mm Voigtlanders but didn't consider the 15mm as I use a Canon 16-35 f4, and was considering the very highly regarded new Sony 16-35 2.8. There is also the 12-24mm Sony that seems to be well received. Is it worth bothering with a 15mm prime at all? Unless the IQ is superior, then I would understand. I also wouldn't mind manual focus for lenses this wide - so maybe if it's that good - I would find space for it in my bag

Looking forward to some responses. Thanks.

I have the voigtlander 15 and the FE 12-24. While the latter is good and has the advantGe of s zoom, the Vogt is sharper, has better color, rendering and great sunstars. The 12-24 is more prone to flaring and sunstars are not nearly as nice. Both have the heir place.

Interesting that you found the Voigt sharper. I did quite a bit of testing and found that sharpness was so close that I couldn't pick one as being better. Everything else that you've listed agreed with my testing! The Sony zoom is definitely sharper toward the ends than the Voigt 12, which I ended up selling after seeing the results.
