There might be few people on this forum that owns a combo like Nikon 500 or 600 f4 AND a 200-500f4 or 150-600 Sport.
I'd like to ask you guys if you could post a test comparing them at 500 or 600 at the same aperture.
What interests me is not really the sharpness but the bokeh and the separation from the background.

I love the Sigma 150-600 Sport but I am debating if the 200-500 has a better bokeh and I'd love to see them against the big brothers.

I think this would be a very interesting test, and thanks in advance if somebody takes the time to do that.

I don't do tests but here are some busy bokeh samples from the 500 and 200-500. EXIF info on Flickr. The 200-500 is nothing to write home about, but it's surprisingly good considering the price.

Thanks Christian,

The idea here is exactly to compare the lenses at the same aperture and see the differences, that's why I was asking somebody to kindly try that.

Thanks for your post though, nice images!

If you are looking to compare at fixed apertures, you realize it's the Nikon 200-400mm which is a fixed f/4, while the Nikon 200-500mm is a fixed f/5.6

Or, do you just want to compare wide open?

No what I'd like to see is the following:

Nikon 500 at f5.6 vs Nikon [email protected]
Nikon 500 at f6.3 vs Sigma [email protected]
Nikon 600 at f6.3 vs [email protected]

Just comparing apples with apples.

Thanks,
G.

Primes vs zooms is NOT apples to apples.
Re: the first two 'requests'...the zooms don't catch up 'til f8 or f9
I don't have a 600 f4 but expect similar results.

If rendering of the bokeh is a priority you can't go wrong with the primes. They deliver the goods from f/4 to f/5.6. The 200-500 is surprisingly okay, just a tad more nervous.

As said, sharpness is not what really interests this test, I think we all know the primes are sharper so in my opinion It is apples to apples comparing same focal lengths and same aperture for the purpose of this test: checking the differences between the bokeh of the zooms and the primes.

What Christian is saying is exactly what I was hoping to see through the images: the 200-500 has a very good bokeh compared to the [email protected], but I'd like to see a comparison and also with the Sigma Sport.

The test should show how much better is the bokeh of a [email protected] compared to a Nikon [email protected] or [email protected] vs Sigma Sport [email protected] or Nikon [email protected] vs Sigma Sport [email protected]?

Is just a single shot per lens with a reasonable distance subject to background to show the Bokeh quality.
I understand it takes time, so don't expect this to be done so soon, but thanks everybody in any case!

I have the 150-600sport and 600 VR so...the prime has absolutely an edge on both the sharpness and bokeh

Mark would be awesome if you could take a couple of simple shots so we can take a look at the bokeh difference...

I have the sigma sport and a nikon 500vr, haven't done a comparison. My gut results tell me what others are saying as well...that the new superzooms are amazing for the money, but when lighting or shooting conditions are difficult the fixed long glass is just a bit better, and a bit sharper. All that glass does make a bit of a difference, at least to my eye. That being said, lately I've been using the sport more than my 500vr because of the flexibility of the former.
