I found f2.8 is far more desireable on 17-55 compared to slower 15-85; I think its about personal choice and where you will be travelling.

Crazy thing is 15-85 IS is newer and IS is 1 stop better than 17-55 2.8. So it's almost a wash.

That depends ... the 17-55 seems to be quite good wide open; the 15-85 needs stopping down 1-2 stops for good corners, and it has a 2 stop disadvantage at 50mm or so. No way 1 stop better IS can compensate for that, except maybe if you only need good center sharpness.

But for me the better focal length range of the 15-85 is far more important in practice. If the 17-55 started at 15mm I would seriously consider one (although on the smaller Rebels it would probably be a bit 'top-heavy', even the 15-85 is borderline for balance IMHO).

80D body just listed for EUR 1044 (1129 with 18-55 STM kit zoom) from a seller at amazon.de, new but not available from stock. That's by far the lowest price I have seen in Europe.

I don't have any experience with amazon gear sales so don't know if this is a reliable offer. If a Dutch retailer offers near this price I will bite, because that seems like a realistic price while the current EUR 1299 minimum price for body only seems very rich ...
Maybe a price drop is coming next month?

The 17-55 and 15-85 must be subject to lots of sample variation. The reason I say that is, well, opinions and experiences are so different. My experience is my 15-85 is equal or slightly sharper than my 17-55, including corners. I shot the15-85 wide open a lot and felt confident the images would be sharp and they were. Both my lenses were early production models so maybe QC was better in the first few months. But yes, that 15-85 range is so much more useful. I can alway travel with my 50 1.8 STM or 35 2.0 IS if I need a larger aperture for dark streets and bars.

I thought BuyDig was an Unauthorized Canon dealer and only sells gray market stuff?

It appears that they are, according to the company that processes the rebate.

howard and riokid, buydig.com is on Canon's list of authorized retailers. You can download the list at https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/contactus/where-to-buy/.

Maybe they've recently left the Canon homestead. Company websites may not be updated regularly.

I read that these crazy printer deals are now a thing of the past as of today. Here is the story from CanonPriceWatch....

If you download Canon's list of authorized dealers, it says, "Canon U.S.A. Inc. - Authorized Dealers Effective 4/25/16," and has buydig.com on it, so I'd say it's fairly current.
