The question that needs to be answered is: Which is better? Batis 18/2.8 or Loxia 21/2.8?

Yea it's the question of the day alright. Having the 24-70 it just gaps better. Zoom 82 filter 18 77 just use a step up and the 85 is 77. Batis 25 is 67. Heck buy 82 filters and step ups. Does have me wondering about it. The MTFs look good too

For me personally, the Loxia isn't even a question. I prefer 18 over 21 any day in fast primes. If it's slow and tiny, i'll accept 21, because that's much easier to make a slow/tiny 21...

Honestly I thought it would cost more, but it's still not something I'm ready to jump on just yet. I'm sure it'll be one of, if not the best, 35mm format 18's ever, let alone AF and f2.8...

, I would be more interested in: Which is better? Batis 18/2.8 or Loxia 15/2.8. This one certainly broke the uniform filter size rule. I do hope we will see a Loxia 15 soon.

In view of this, I will skip the CV 15mm III in FE mount and go straight to the CV 12mm instead . And now Zeiss needs to focus on getting a long lens out. A 135mm f/2 would be just perfect in my book.

Yea if I went 18 the CV 15 would go and get the 12

12,18,24-70, Loxia 50, GM 24-70, GM 85mm. Maybe pick up a 28 of some sort and really that would be a nice kit. But Im not giving up my 21mm so easy. Your going to have to pry it out of my greasy fingers. ROTFLMAO

My question is: has Zeiss remedied the production issues or will these "pre orders" languish until December?

They did say they increased there production facility why their where delays in the 25 and 85. So at this point my bet is they have. That was a couple months ago they said they where doing that.

I pre-ordered mine back when it was still a credible rumor. Just put money down for the first one my dealer gets. Can't wait. And the official US ship date is my birthday.

Frankly, I was surprised at the scheduled delivery date of May 5. That's three weeks from today! So, it seems that the lens has been in production for quite some time. How well Zeiss will stick to that delivery date and how well the anticipate the number of pre-orders will remain to be seen but I got the hunch that they will do better than the case with the first two Batiis lenses.

I received a notification from my CC company that B&H already charged my card. I understood that they wouldn't do that until it ships. I will wait a day or two and check the status of that charge on-line.

That CV 15mm is making even more sense.

Compact,
4.5 vs 2.8 no big deal at this FL,
MF vs AF at this FL.....no brainer if it means less bulk (AF eats up bulk & weight)
price difference.

Great to see choice & options available for the E mount.

Yea...I just checked my card, and they have it under "pending". My guess is it goes away until it's ready to ship...unless they already have a shipment incoming to take care of preorders before it's more widely available on May 5th, but I doubt it.

They caught so much crap for the delays on the other two Batis lenses, that I'm guessing this will be significantly better. Plus, when the other two came out, options were limited at those focal lengths. Between the FE 16-35 & Loxia 21mm, this might not be the "no brainer" preorder that the others were, slowing initial demand.

Sounds good but what if they release a Loxia 15/2.8 by the end of the year?

diglloyd.com has put up his review. I briefly gone through it and it looks like the one trade off with this lens is the distortion at 3.5%. But he says it is the best 18mm he has ever tested. Not a lot of field curvature and very good edge sharpness peaking at 5.6, but still very good to f11. Almost gets to peak sharpness in the centre at 2.8!

A preorder order I think for me!

I used to shoot TS-E 17mm and TS-E 24mm and I have say I much prefer 15 and 21mm for primes.

Funny i don't really use my 15mm as much as i thought. Its kind of a occasional lens. I can be happy with the VC 12 or 15 as I don't do astro work. Rather put the real money into longer focal lengths

Whats your thoughts. Lets say the 18mm is the kissing cousin to the Loxia 21mm as far as IQ no real difference. Now you have the 24-70 like me. Fred the thing is the dang zoom at 24mm is amazing and 21mm being so close.
