wonder what our average age is....
I think (the frequent contributors at least) have many retirees and near-retirees in their midst

I would say the average would probably fall into the 40-50 y.o. age-range.

Some older folks have more time to go out to shoot, edit, post, etc. and also generally have the means to get some of this [really] expensive gear.

I know the local camera club is ancient. Average age there has got to be at least 65.

I'm sure all the kids are on Instagram instead!

Good analysis. I am starting to see why, after looking at thousands of landscapes, and architecture and portraits and other mainstream stuff, they are all starting to look alike. The choices are to find curiosity or quit.

Milky way with some guy shining a flashlight into the sky, Multi minute seascapes where the surf is reduced to a flat sheet etc. I am currently working on the worlds hardest sudoku.

Solved the sudoku today, took about 50 tries. Now I can practice with my camera, I have just about forgotten how to use it.
