Been following a nesting long-eared owl for a while now. The male always decides to head out hunting way after sunset (female doesn't show herself because she takes care of the eggs), leaving ISO's up to 25600 @ 1/20

But tonight he sat on my favourite pole just a little earlier (the one i always tell my wife... "if he just sits over there.. i will be the happiest man on earth"). And he even yawned at me.. Now if my wife did that to me, i would not be all too happy. But can you forgive this little fellow.

Those days you remember what that hobby of yours is all about...

I really hope they will be succesfull in raising their offspring so i can enjoy their 'family business' a little longer.

Cheers!

Marcus

Great shot! I've only seen one of these, a captive bird, at Bay Shore Park in Green Bay WI.

They look different than our N.A. LE Owls. Considering everything, these shots are quite acceptable. I hope the future brings more photo ops with this couple.

What a treat! Your patience and persistence paid off with these wonderful portraits. I've not seen this one in real life so really appreciate your effort.

Nicely done; thanks for posting.

Thanks, these are real twilight hunters (mostly when there's no good light left). And during daylight they hide in dense trees and bushes which makes them hard to photograph with a nice background. (if you can spot them that is). I hope when they have offspring they are forced to hunt sooner with better light so i can snap some in flight images as well. Fingers crossed!
