Just a little something from an old C/Y 50/1.4 @ 5.6

(Exif is from a different adapter)

Kent, I really like this, but it seems to have a grey cast to me, or is it my vision?

Yeah; a little dark and a greenish cast. Took advantage of a few NIK presets since they are now free. Got them to all work in the GIMP too.

Ben,

Yeah, I wondered about that.

The numbers were in the sub-200 range (i.e. not quite white @ +/- 220-ish ), but when I brought them up in levels, they just seemed blown to my eye, so I went against my numbers and went with my eye on this one (atypical). I even played with my monitor settings (maybe time for a recalibration), to see if it was fooling me a bit there.

I'll trust "by the numbers" this time (as I typically do) and see how it fares.

The processing on both are very nice, but I like the way the petals "glisten" in Lyle's example. Is that something which is a product of using a NIK tool? Or is it just a result of additional sharpening?

Nice job on the rework Kent, it looks a lot better.

The rework is good, but I like Lyles version best.

Lots of times, the brightness is more important than the other parts of the cal, and as we know, there is no standard for brightness.

Yeah; used NIK's sharpener and then applied selectively to the petals (i.e, I cheated a bit). lolol

If you haven't all done it yet, you should get the Nik Collection. I paid for it several times as it evolved. Free now!

Nice comp, Kent, and timely. I prefer the vibrance and brightness of Lyle's rework, although it seems to be a bit pink in the petals. Maybe somewhere between his tones and yours.

Yeah; pretty impressed with the collection so far (though again, only toyed with it). I'm sure the interface to PS is even more powerful but my editor of choice is still the GIMP.

I also paid for the Nik collection and mostly use the silver efex pro tool for converting color to black and white. Many say it's the best tool around. And now it's free!!!

Sometimes it pays to be patient and wait for something, Scott (i.e., yes, I'm a cheap bstard. lol).

I prefer your rework Kent - OP looked pretty muddled, but things are still feeling a bit flat.

Boosted contrast and sat (in a couple channels), tweaked gamma slightly and added a little USM.

Cheers!

Jeff

Man, you guys are making me feel like I "lost my touch" ... guess I'll have to up my game some more.

Although, for some reason I thought this one would make for a "softer vibe". So much for that thought, huh?

I think you finally nailed it. Night and day compared to the original one posted. Good job!

As a wise man once told me exactly 1 year ago today on this thread.

"Delicate flower ... what delicate flower. I'm bold and beautiful, and coming out to show the world."

Nice edit Kent. I'd say you're back on your game now.

Ok, how about extremely helpful and all around nice guy?

So what did you figure out? Was your monitor calibration off or something? I noticed your horse image had the same kinda flatness as your original image here. I think I remember Ben mentioning something about the brightness level during calibration can have this effect?
