still loving the 24G?
do you have the 1.8 or 1.4.

there are some truly excellent comments throughout this thread, thank you all.
I have been all around the block recently
went from 35 Art, to 28G, to 35 1.4G
went back to 28
now I have 20 28 58, and 105 on preorder.
actually I don't have a 28. I returned it today, at the end of a 30 day grace period (open box sale) - it had some extra wear and tear on it. seller took it back.
so I've been looking back at my images in LR, of all these FL. so fun.
I know that the 24 1.8 G ED is a fab lens
20 28 58 105 are a great set of primes.
But as @elijah@ says, that 20 is only getting used 5% of the time. and I have a 16-35.
So, as I try to curtail my gear a bit... 24G 1.8, 58G, 105E seems like they could get the job done too.
I just know that for people, 28 > 24. 24 can be wonky.
it's wild that the 24 1.8G got 2 ED elements.
"Interestingly, Nikon designed the 24mm f/1.8G to be somewhat similar to its bigger brother optically – both lenses feature a rear focus design comprising of 12 total elements, 2 of which are extra-low dispersion and 2 are aspherical. Both have Nano-coating and Super Integrated Coating technologies applied to lens elements for improving colors and reducing ghosting and flare. Both have the same Silent Wave Motor for fast and quiet autofocus operation. So aside from differences in maximum aperture, number of aperture blades (7 vs 9), differences price, weight and size, the two lenses seem to have a lot in common." - photographylife

I will add that I know the 28G has superior AF, instant lock on my D810.
The AF in the 24 1.8G is not as good.
So, if I decided to sell my 20G. And not get a third 28.
It would be 24/58/105
My d750 is -3 ev, so I could put the 24 1.8G on the d750 and AF would obviously be fine!
Then keep the 58G or 105G on the d810.

It's all a matter of what you already own and what you shoot.
I have a 24-70G, therefore I don't need a 24mm prime or a 35mm prime.
There are many times I would pair a 24-70G + 70-200VRII and many times I'd pair a 28G + 58G.
After fiddling with my setup for years and years It seems like I will settle on two zoom and 3-4 prime kit.
I used to say I'm a prime guy until I got so sick of swapping between lenses during events. I just don't think it's safe to be a "prime guy" anymore.
I am finally fortunate to own a set of zooms and a set of primes so I take advantage of that.
Again, it's all a matter of what you shoot.
