A honey bee eventually found some of my sugar/honey syrup offerings on camellia buds the other day. What I think was the same bee came back several times to fill up again taking around 7 mins to reappear again. Most of the shots are focus stacks using zerene.

Brian,

Very nice results.

Although there is pollen out there, there can't be much nectar available. You would expect it to recruit fellow workers to the source.

Nice set Brian

Surprised she didn't tell her friends. I usually see one eventually take the bait, but they initially avoid it because either it's not what they are looking for or their is too much and it seems odd. After a few trips back to the hive I'll see more honeybees and their foraging pattern changes. I can tell that they are specifically looking for the bait. At some point the girls figure out that I have the sweet stuff and I can add more nectar to the flower they are feeding on without scaring them off, or hand feed them. Just have to limit how much I put out or I'll get more bees than I can handle.

Thanks for the comments Harold and John.
Yes I thought I would see more bees appearing but I only saw the one reappearing every 7 mins or so. It was fairly cool at the time - maybe she could not persuade the others to come out.

Good detail in these Brian. How do you get mulit-shots at different focus points of a bee that's moving? Some special rig? I'm baffled at how that can happen. Guess I should Google it.

Thanks all for the comments

Kcollett - when I take a sequence of shots for stacking the insect is reasonable stationary. It actually does not matter too much if it moves a little - eg the antennae always move. You just have to edit the stack after by cloning back from a single shot onto the stack shot. Zerene allows you to do this within the programme.

1 and 2 are my favorites Brian, more killer good work. I love your processing that gets beautiful detail without over-sharpening. Very well done.

Stellar set! These are some of the most consistently detailed images of their kind I've seen. They provide a rarely-seen view of nectar-slurping; really an amazing and insightful perspective.

These are the 'bees' knees'! Thanks for posting.
