p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · US Women's Soccer - Olympic Qualifiers

Shots from the USWNT games in Houston last weekend, where they qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Comments and critique welcome!

All shot using a Nikon D750 and a Tamron 150-600.

Decent action; I'm partial to the first shot.

From an action perspective it's #2. From a 'getting the rest of the story' angle, I would pick #5. Interested why you picked these 5?
There are significantly stronger captures on your flicker sight.

I am also partial to number one, perhaps because the white jersey and her tan tones dominate the image. For my eye, the saturation of the field pics is too high. One thing I like about highly saturated images is that they can make nice black and white conversions. I might like to see #3 in mono because then I could view the lines and shapes created by the action moment more clearly.

Interesting that you say they're oversaturated - they came out of the camera like this, I didn't touch saturation at all when editing, just a little clarity and contrast. (The field really was that green!) I'm always hesitant to touch the saturation because honestly I'm never quite sure if my monitor is calibrated properly.

Some turf fields are this green in person and SOOC. For action I like 2, for player portraiture I like 1.

My daughter loves Mallory Pugh, I will have to show her this image when she gets home.

Straight out of camera just means the camera decided saturation and other settings. What picture control did you use? This is simply my view from the cheap seats. Did you shoot jpeg and raw?

1 interesting
2 terrific
3 would be good from in front
4 unfortunately no ball
5 is just a grab shot.

I find soccer to be extremely challenging to shoot and come away with a set of compelling images. I pretend that if I had two 1d bodies and a 400 f2.8 at my disposal it would be easier but the reality is that it's a very challenging sport to shoot. Keep after it and thanks for sharing.
