Congratulations to Aztatlan for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 23 votes - View Previous Winners

This weekend just past I headed into a place called Rocky Creek Canyon in Australia's Blue Mountains, an area known for some stunning slot canyons. It was an interesting place to photograph, and relatively empty. Getting to this point required swimming, basic rope climbing, etc. The highlights were certainly immensely challenging to control in a scene with such a wide dynamic range.

Looks like a spectacular location, worth the effort if one can do it.

Great light and a sweet view of what looks like an amazing place. Nice to see some different slot canyons from the usual fare.

Now that is sweet!
I think you contained the light pretty good.
Sounds like an Indiana Jones experience to get there

Thanks for posting

The image is a blend of several exposures so the rays are taken from one of the higher exposures. Additionally, you can paint over them using a low opacity brush on a soft light layer to bring them out a little more.

That's a cool slot canyon. I would lessen the rays in the background, especially the reflected ones. Darken them just a bit, but the ones being reflected should be the darkest. This will help give more depth to the shot too.

Wow! I've been in many slot canyons, and this is the lushest I've ever seen! (Must be an Aussie thing ) Great control of highlights and shadows, and very nice composition.
