p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Bees with the 200-500 and 12mm extension tube

Had to give the 200-500 a try with an extension tube. I really wanted to try with the hummingbirds, but they did not show up.

Chasing very small flying things hand holding this lens is not something I would want to do often. However, if one ever needed to , it certainly is up to the task. I was very pleasantly surprised how it would focus on the bee provided I could get it and keep in the view finder A little touch of the focus ring on occasion was all that was need to grab focus.

As always open to suggestions and do really appreciate your comments.

Thank you for looking and do hope you enjoy.

Birdie

Nothing like taking on a challenge Birdie...the razor thin dof is something I don't think I would have taken on...the third one is so interesting with the right wing looking like it's virtually touching something solid....you are one game gal!

Very nice work Birdie. I have to try this with the sigma at 600. #3 & 5 are my picks here.

You and your 300 nail these Birdie. IMO these look off to me in focus and or sharpness. Of the set #2 is the best and your Blue Jay is lovely but only needs one catchlight
That is a heck of a challenge with the 200-500 and tubes, I give you credit for pulling these off!

Personally, I wouldn't have a hope in heck of holding that lens steady enough to spot the bee, let alone get a decent pic. I quite like #3. Jay is quite nice too.

Nice work, Birdie.

Having played with a 30mm tube behind a 300mm, it is interesting to see your results with a 12mm.

I'm surprised that you use the focus ring rather than your own body movement for fine adjustments.

Lovely series Birdie - that's got to be the hardest way to get a bee shot

I have to agree with Karl on this one, but I think that it's still a good practice run. To me it looks like a lot of the bee shots were taken in hard light. Did you have a tough time getting the shutter speeds you wanted?

Also agree with Brian -Imma gonna stick to the EF-S 60mm + extension tubes cause I think it's easier

As a general point, I find that some images, even with flash, may have a tiny bit of motion blur. This can be taken out with Topaz InFocus software.

Too cool Roberta.
You even have a bee that looks like it is blowing spit bubbles.

Nicely done, Birdie, but I'm with Karl. Perhaps the extension tube is simply removing all the depth of field.

That said, I probably couldn't lift that lens...

If it is anything like my Tamron 200-500, I found it very heavy 15 years or so ago.
