Overstock.com has the Sigma 24-105 f/4 for $749....it is probably a grey market but they advertise a 1 year manufacturer warranty....any opinions on the lens and price?

i have this lens and use it all the time, previously i used lenses like 24-120, 28-300 but i liked this one most

I love the Sigma on my D800e. Super-sharp. Really enjoy correcting AF via the USB Dock for 4 different focal lengths and 4 distances at each of 4 focal lengths.

I bought my USA version from greentoe for $785. Lens is excellent, but I sold it. But that is me. I just keep trying to like zooms but always go back to primes.

The lens is a winner. I use mine for street, landscape, portraiture and more. Fast AF (O/S) and excellent VR (IS). It is so versatile and sharp at all focal lengths.

I bought one earlier. Cannot say I love the image quality but it is way better than 24-120. Images are very sharp. For the price, you cannot do better.

This lens is what prompted me to look at third party glass again. This Sigma is one of my go-to workhorses that I mount on a D750. The F4 isn't limiting and I just underexpose and fix in post if light is an issue.

^^ I believe that Sigma has a 1 year world-wide warranty. Sigma USA has a 4 year warranty.

(Corrected to 4 years, per trenchmonkey's note, below. Also, it looks like Sigma Canada has a 7 year warranty through Gentec. At least on the 150-600 C that I looked up.)

Sigma actually does a pretty great job with warranty repairs. If you look at the Lens Rental repair data, they do pretty well in turnaround time and cost.

I sent in a new 50 1.4 non-Art that needed adjustment, I got it back quickly with free return shipping. Only one data point of course...

There were a couple of used Sigma 24-105 4.0 Art for sale on Buy & Sell here. You could inquire about the purchase date and a purchase receipt and potentially save a bit.

I purchased one a couple of months ago after doing some research. It looks like a higher quality lens than the ubiquitous 24-120. I haven't had a chance to use mine too much yet, as I am mostly doing wildlife photography with longer lenses until April. Then I will go back to event photography with the Sigma 24-105 4.0 and Nikon 70-200 4.0 VR as my main lenses.

Gotta disagree here...my NIB USA lenses have a 1yr International
and 3 yr US 'extension' if registered (for a total of 4) Having pointed
this out...moot for moi. Never used a warranty in > 50 yrs of shootin'
We certainly CAN agree on it's build/IQ over the Nikon 24-120. Blech.

Jim, do you have issue with focusing in LiveView with this lens?

I've only used it a couple occasions on tripod with LV, but so far focusing has been fine in LV.

Very, very sharp across the frame, fantastic OS (1/8s @ 105mm perfectly achievable), blisteringly fast AF. As an all-rounder it's unbeatable and smokes the Nikon 24-120....
