Either one would have been very beneficial...oh yeh, the smell down wind from the rotting hippo (the origin of the lion's messy face) was much less than pleasant thank you very much.

Ha ha! What a view!

As usual, gorgeous capture of a cat in its own environment.

Always look forward to your cat pictures.

How they can tolerate those flies (and the stink) I can't understand.
Great environment shot. I trust you coated yourself with rotting hippo and flies to get the shot!!

I think this is the year that 'we' fear the bugs with the diseases they are carrying!

That shot is a mess

Super photo Eric.

I've always been advised to stay out of the rot plume as it can get you sick

Super ecology image Eric. I think I can smell the lion from here and definitely feel for this one.

Well done!

Thanks Don...the smell was overpowering and was evident from at least a half mile away....I don't know how the cats tolerate either the smell or the flies.

You could say that Ron...I think putting Vicks Vapo Rub near my nose would have been a clever thing to do but for some reason I don't travel with the stuff.

Yup, with all the nasties with tooth and claw it is the little things that more apt will make you sick or worse...scary proposition...and now they've even reported retinal lesions in people with Zika.
BTW, there are no mosquitoes in Iceland...just sayin'

Birdie

Thanks Birdie...and you can only imagine the number of flies on the hippo itself. Cats are such fastidious groomers so I suspect it will lick itself clean and maybe find a pool of water to wash away the remains

Yup, it is very important to know wind direction.

Yeah Mark...not a pleasant aroma and we tried to give enough distance to the carcass that we didn't have incoming flies either.

Thanks Louie...I do try for some out of the ordinary shots...but training the flies to do that routine took a lot of work

Hi Eric...

And then I see this just before I go to the dining room for Valentine's Day dinner. Yummy rotting hippo as a main course, and then flies for dessert!

Very nice photograph despite the backstory.

Thanks
Tom

Thanks for not posting a "scratch n sniff" with this image.

Still a very cool shot... amazing you were able to lock-on focus through the gazillion flies.

Wait, you did see this on smell-o-vision didn't you? I'm sure if I wanted to lock on the flies I wouldn't have been able to!
