Fred I'm going to sell the Batis as I'm seeing something really wonderful in the GM. My bet it two lenses in one at 1.4 2.8 it's going to render very nice tones and great bokeh than from there down its going to be a laser like the Batis. I see the edge in the GM and frankly looking at the 24-70 GM it maybe the nicest rendering zoom I have seen. These new elements are better than I think we thought at first. I'm not liking my onion rings right now in my 35 1.4
I maybe making some big changes. I just shot a test 21,28,35 1.4 and the 24-70 f4. Corner and central test. I still have a lot to test yet on the 21 and 28 so I'm gathering data now.

I'm a little giddy though on the 21 and these GM lenses

I know, I'm happy with some things and a little disappointed by others and these GM lenses are screaming at me to buy them both. I'm still not happy with 35mm choices. I keep looking at a image on my iPhone wallpaper of my grandson with Christmas lights in the background that I'm seeing a thousand onion rings shot with the 35 1.4 and its getting under my skin. Than I look at this 24-70 GM wide open and its smooth as silk.

I was in the same boat and just decided to get an RX1 (V1) instead for my 35mm needs. The priced of a used RX1 is equal to a used 35 1.4 lens.

We need a full course GM, no onion . Guy, that 70-200 is calling your name too. If this initial positive reaction translates well into sale, I think we would see more GM coming out every year. I want a GM 20/1.4, 24/1.4, 28/1.4, 35/1.4, 50/1.4.... I need my big GM set. I think they should make use of their Bokeh simulation more, 3 lenses are not enough.

You know that is not a bad thought at all. It would at least serve me until something has changed. I also thought of a VC 35 1.2 or 1.7 but I need some advice on those.

The Sonnar 35/2 (RX1)'s bokeh highlight disks are not very clean either. It's not as bad as the 55/1.8 but you will see onion patterns as well. I posted an example in previous threads.

The new GM line seems to accomplish something extraordinary combining great smooth and clean bokeh, together with high resolution/contrast for high MP sensors.

I already pre-ordered the 85/1.4GM and will be waiting for a 16-35/2.8GM, 35/1.4GM and 70-400/4-5.6GM.

Which Fred leads me right into both the 24-70 and the 85 and keep my Loxia 21 and VC 15mm and call it a day. Looking at that 24-70 imagery so far its smooth has nice bokeh and is making me wonder why bother with anything in between the 21 and 85. Maybe have the Loxia 50 and keep the little 28 F2. Than have a nice lightweight kit of VC 15, Loxia 21 and 50 with the 28 to boot. The 85 goes in both kits regardless

Im actually starting to think this maybe the answer as there is no 35mm lens fitting the bill unless i went back to a 35mm F2 distagon ZE and that aint a bad thought either. I had it 4 times

I would love a 35mm f/2 GM, a f/1.4 GM would be too heavy for street/walk around.

A pretty nice landscape line-up could be:
VC15, Loxia 21, 24-70GM, 70-200/4

The 24-70GM could potentially replace my FE28/2, Loxia 35/2 and Loxia 50/2 but it all depends on well it compares to them. I may rent one and do a comparison test.
BTW: The 70-200/4 is an incredible lens for landscapes as it performs better at infinity. (especially at the long range)

Yea Im kind of on the same wavelength. I actually have a feeling this 24-70 would replace those primes you mentioned. Besides that its the PERFECT PR lens for me. I don't go past 85 too much on landscape and that lens would go every where I go regardless. I will eat the size and weight of the 85 as that will always be in the bag.

For now, for a trip and a couple gigs until the 24-70 is in place is sell my 35 1.4 buy the Loxia 50 keep the extra cash in Paypal waiting it out. Than i would sell the 24-70 F4 , 28

I happened to have a good 35 1.4 for someone here that is brand new. Its been tested and by 2.8 both corner sides are even. Thats the best your going to get with this 35 1.4 . PM me if anyone has interest. Ill probably put it on the B&S this weekend. I can take partial trade for a Loxia 50mm

I second the RX1 suggestion. Keeping mine until write-off season arrives and I can upgrade.

I'm protesting Sony (and have RX100iii,NEX-5,6,7,A6000,A7Rii) until a native 400mm e-mount is offered.
The fixed EVF refresh rate is really really desirable and I've already got an LAEA3 and 70400gii but I'm trying to stand on principle this time
Wonder if the raw buffer is adaquate?
I do bet that Sony has finally realized the aging birder population---maybe it was seeing Panasonic and Oly bring out the big guns (300/4, PL100-400) and has a 400/4 on the chalk board. So maybe the FE 400/4 will be announced with the A7Riii once the A6300 tech trickles up.
Double card slots can't trickle at Sony so lets hope it just materializes from somewhere.

I agree. It would be very nice to have very high quality native 400mm f/5.6 but I can see Sony releasing a 70-400mm because it would be a more popular lens.

You bet! I was on a shoot today with my X-T1 and the staff/talent seemed kind of disappointed that I brought a peashooter to a gun show.

I was being sarcastic above, but the combination of large lens/small body, while practical in use, does kind of look funny.

Much faster AF, better high ISO performance, standard flash shoe, better battery life, wifi, proper remote release options, more secure tripod socket, improved EVF (with a better eyecup).

Downside is lower build quality and the loss of the dual rear dials.

The A6000 is already a huge upgrade over the NEX-7 in all regards except the EVF (it gives up resolution but gains better DR and much faster refresh) and controls, the A6300 removes the NEX-7's one remaining EVF advantage.

As nice as a 35/2 GM would be, it would somewhat defeat the purpose that a 35/2 typically has in the lineup- small(er) and more affordable than the faster 35's in that mount.
A GM would be like $1200 probably, if not more.

I'd be PERFECTLY happy with a 35/2 in the style of the 28/2.
