Okay Jim, one more pick at your brain, please :-)
How useful is leveling bubble on the clamp (and facing upward -- my preference!) as opposed to, for instance, this flash mounted unit pictured below? BTW, I rarely use speedlight as it is -- and never use speedlight on DSLR sitting on a triod/monopod
Your setup is precisely what I envisioned. Well, less the RRS clamp since I already spent part of my inheritance on the RRS L-plate for D800 and the LP-10 that fits 70-200VR.
I don't use a level when shooting on a monopod. For tripod shooting, I used a level in the flash shoe for a while a few years ago, but misplaced it, and didn't bother to replace it. For tilt-shift shooting, I use the level bubble on the top-level panning base of my head (C1 Cube) and/or on the clamp (like the RRS). For 'normal' tripod shooting, I use the in-camera level for port/starboard horizontal level, and pick my fore/aft aiming point (i.e. elevation) according to the subject, remembering to point it at a target at the same height as me, if I want to eliminate perspective distortion.
