Doing a sensor cleaning cycle on a Canon body is the correct process to update the mapping out of hot pixels (aka stuck pixels) like you have shown us in that image. The mention of the process is only vaguely mentioned in Canon manuals for some of the latest cameras. Check out sensor cleaning in the manual for your camera to see if it is mentioned. I have heard various reports about if the length of the clean cycle makes a difference, and do not know the answer to that.
Remember that the number of hot pixels that show up in an image can depend some on the operating temperature of the camera, and also on the length of the exposure, with long exposures potentially worse. And finally, you often do not notice hot pixels in normal photography, but they really show up in large black areas, like your image that has a black background. Night star photography is also a place where lots of black gives them a chance to mix in with the stars.
