Haven't shot anything for a while. So decided to head out to see if this $300 Tamron 70-300 vc could perform well as a birding lens. Heheheh... not bad if the subjects aren't that far and with the right raw editor and processing....

the lighting on all of these is wonderful. is it all natural light? or are you using some type of extended fill flash?

Thanks everyone. I am not strangers in bird photography and used to shoot with a 500L. Sadly, my bird specie varieties are pretty much limited to these common birds. It does not get better throughout the winter. Thought it was an interesting and fun experiment.

Yes, these are strobed of course, and about 50% cropped from 5k pixels to around 2600 pixel or even smaller. They are good enough for web viewing. Not with a better beamer or flash extender. Set the flash power to 1/4 to 1/8 connected to a high voltage battery pack, the Lumedyne mega cycler with 1s cycling time at full power.

that is amazing, i would so love to see how this comes out in a sunrise/sunset back lit scenario with a 1/4 cto gelled strobe.

killer work!
