p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Waves after Jonas

I've been waiting for over a year for conditions like this, and after Winter Storm Jonas moved out, I finally got my chance on Sunday. I wasn't too happy that the biggest waves would be right at noon (probably the only landscape shoot I've planned for the middle of the day), but I couldn't pass up this chance. Tough shooting conditions, this lighthouse was over 2 miles offshore, and we had to shoot through a lot of haze and sea spray, but holy hell! This lighthouse is 87 feet tall, and some of these waves were crashing OVER the top. So much power, incredible to watch. Definitely not my cleanest image with all the haze to shoot through, but what a thing to watch!

What lens did you use for this?

A formidable capture! Personally I think there is some great potential in this pic and would put a little more photoshop into this to bring out texture in the wave. If you have NIK filters I would layer mask Detail Extractor into the wave action and lighthouse and also make a luminosity mask color mask adjustment layer to bring out a little more color depth into the scene - and then because either side is just empty space I would crop it out with a 1x1 crop.
