I was wondering if any of you tried the sigma sports with the new Sigma TC-1401 . I tried it with my Kenko Teleplus PRO 300 DGX 1.4x and I am quite impressed. It still focus at F9 but not too fast and I can use center point only.

They doesn't seem to be much degradation in picture quality. I was wandering if the sigma tc was much better compare to the kenko

I'd personally never use a TC with this zoom. Don't want to lose a stop and most
certainly don't want to lose even a millisecond of AF speed shooting BIF/wildlife.
Shooting stuff (that sits still) in very good light, you might be happy.

Last review done by Imagemaster I believe on Canon mount had the new Sigma TC as not performing as well as the cheaper Kenko, for whatever reason; might try searching for his results there.

Right, except I tried it on the Contemporary, not the Sport.

I know!! I already think the af is not that fast, not bad but not fast! I will use it in last resort!

I think there's a nice 1.5 tc coming out in march with no loss of light and doesn't affect the af speed either!

I think the af speed will even be improve with this tc, the D500!!! lol

Link? I just find that hard to believe. You know the saying, "If it sounds too good to be true, it likely is"

Not likely, or should I say not possible?

Hmmm, I find it plenty fast. Did you update the firmware? Customize AF settings via dock??

Hahaha, it is expensive!

Focus is fast but not 200 F2 fast!! I was spoiled that's all

Yes I did update the firmware and change focus speed to motor priority and put custom limit range for faster focus and less hunting.

The body will make all the difference. On my D300 which is not specked for f8 AF my Kenko Teleplus PRO 300 DGX 1.4x worked though with slow focus. Quality is great. After the firmware upgrade to improve tracking which was a good improvement over what was already good, AF no longer worked with the TC. I used it occasionally with MF and got great results. I Have not tried it with my D300s though I will and report my findings. I also have not tried it with my D200 though I suspect that combo would AF as it did with my 80-400 VR (original).

Newer bodies that AF at f8 will work with either TC and the sport.

Lucky I bought a 1401 with my sport. Better, faster and can barely resist not to recommend this. I will keep my kenko for other lenses though
