Nice capture! So very bizarre seeing osprey around palm.

Maybe tighten the crop and check some of those highlights (mainly around the face/feet)?

Cheers,

Jeff

I quite like the expression. Seems to be saying:

"For that lens you paid, WHAT!"

The Osprey might pop more with a slightly wider aperture and maybe a crop with a slightly less laterally centered head?

Ospreys got tongues!! Yep it is weird to see osprey around palms. I never saw one until I moved to North Idaho.

Nice image, but I liked the other pose better.

I like this one a lot better... the interaction that makes the difference.

Wow, this one is fantastic. You really got your subject to connect with the camera, look at that eye contact! Did his screech rattle your lens?

I would add some background blur in post, like Karen's edit, and maybe lighten the bird a bit while darkening the background to further isolate.

I think this crop works, or a tighter crop would also work.

Just for fun, I would caption this shot "YOUR FLY IS UNZIPPED!"

edit: ca'nt spel proprly

I would not say the crop needs to be tighter, but just drop the subject down a little in the frame by removing some of the bottom under the bird. You don't need that much space beneath it. If you do that, you will also get the benefit of the rule of thirds by getting the birds face at about the two-thirds - up line, which is about right for a portrait. Nice shot by the way. It does look unusual, to me anyway, to see an osprey in a palm. I kind of associate them with the North

Another nice shot Scott! I think I like this one more than the other shot you posted. I like Karen's edit in the way it creates a nice separation of the subject.

I think it's funny reading everyone's comments about it being odd to see an Osprey in a palm.
This is the only place I have ever seen Ospreys so it's simply normal for me.

Now I can't stop daydreaming of our annual camping trip to the beach 5 looooong months from now.

I appreciate all the feedback.

First, while I have seen them perched along the MA shore, I could never get close enough. This was across a small man-made canal in Florida, maybe 100 feet away. He/she perches in the same spot everyday until swooping low for fish or out scouting about.

Second, I prefer this pose too. He was singing/screaming/crying. Best I can describe it. Took many a shot to get a good technical image and try to avoid branches in and out of the head.

Third, I debated, played with the crop. I agree it could go a tad tighter. Shot horizontally on a monopod.

Fourth, I agree. Some tweaks for further separation from the foliage is a good idea.

Thanks Gang!

Scott
