p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Long term Nikon Df review

I know the Df has been out for a couple of years now but I have kept a bit of a user review going of my experiences with the camera since I got hold of it at the start of 2014. Served me wonderfully and this was a bit of an excuse to share some of the photos I have got with it. Thought it might be of interest to anyone still considering picking one up.

Nice write-up Tom. I've had the DF for roughly the same amount of time and it cured my GAS. I sold off all of my m43 and Fuji gear not long after I got it. I have quite a few lenses for it, mostly manual focus and mostly older, but a few newer lenses and a few AF lenses.

I was interested in your note about low light AF being much better with the 9-point group AF engaged. I'd always felt the low light AF was fine - not so much for tracking but for S-AF with focus in the middle of the frame. And I pretty much always have the camera set for 9 point AF, so maybe that's why I've always been so satisfied with it? I always figured I just had low expectations / was easily pleased!

Nice review. I just realized that in two years, I've hit 60k actuations. I really like my DF

For AF, I've just found that the non-center points, which are the ones I mostly use, aren't that great in low light. Center with the cross-type are always going to be fine. The AF points are also clustered together. It's the same complaint with the 600/610, but people were expecting better given the price point.

Thanks Ray, yeah its the 9 point C-AF that I found helped as my issue was when the camera couldn't get focus (with the little red dot flash) it just wouldn't fire at all. But I found the C-AF got around this problem.

And yeah, I actually held onto my EM5. Specifically for social occasions where the Df can be a little too "realistic" on people, whereas the EM5 with 20mm and a bit of flash makes everyone look suitably well put together!

60k is definitely a bit ahead of mine. I actually discovered a fairly sizeable build up of dust/dirt on the sensor which I believe is reasonably routine. Managed to clean it myself using a specialist little tool that I cant recall the name of right now.
