It would be normal and acceptable for me!  I can share with you, if the stand was in my shot it was probably intentional, I shoot into my lights a lot. Same would go for Jason as it being intentional, he doesn't tend to do anything that isn't deliberate in his shots. Now that doesn't mean, we don't pay attention to them, we certainly don't want them to be dominating and distracting, that is when I think we would have a problem. If we do our jobs right, the lights should support the subject and not be the subject. I have yet to have any one other than a photographer even mention the lights or stands.
We found the crappy videographers with their 3 monster leg tripods on wheels like you see in the cake shot whom always were in the wrong place a bigger distraction. And trying to work around them. At one point in the reception they were standing side by side with their lights just on, talking to each other. And I couldn't help to laugh cause the temps on the lights were very different. One was set to daylight and the other tungsten, glad I don't have to edit their crap.

Yeah swoop, wasn't one of the worst ones I had been to but it was definitely restricted. We may have been able to use flash, I donno. It was with in a range we both were comfortable just pushing the ISO to, and I don't like flash in church ceremony. I did have to negotiate with Duck Dynasty (as the priest was loving dubbed by the bride) for an aisle floor shot. I had to promise to get it and get out.
