p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Strange lines in the veiling flare

Hello,

I am currently working on my review of the Contax Sonnar 100mm f3.5, a great little lens. Although I didnt find any flare or ghosting so far, there is some relevant veiling flare under some circumstances.

One thing, that I dont understand so far are strange parallel lines in the flare:

What do you think about it? I really dont know the souce, maybe internal reflections or reflecting light inside of the adapter? One other aspect could be sensor glass reflections, the colored pattern could indicate it.

Thanks, Jannik

Sorry, forgot to mention that. Sony A7R and Novoflex Adaptor.

My guess is some level of internal reflection. Does the novoflex have a tiered or scalloped baffle?

I agree with Jordan. I think it needs to be flocked.

I think it is camera reflections. Get this with my Sony A7II quite often when the sun is near the image field. Parallel straight lines seem for me not related to curved adapter forms, more th straight camera forms.

Are the lines always in the same position ?
Are the lines aligned with pixel rows ?
If you rotate the lens in the bayonet of the adapter (not fully clicked in), do the lines rotate ?
If you rotate the adapter in the bayonet of the camera (not fully clicked in), do the lines rotate ?

I would not expect adapter reflections to show up as straight, horizontal lines - but adapter reflections might illuminate a horizontally oriented part in the camera body.
The above tests might help to narrow things down a bit.
