thought I had a bad relatively new SDXC card that would not be recognized in my camera which I just used a few days earlier. found that somehow I moved the pretty inane "lock" switch on the card to lock. took me for then 10 minutes to figure this out since my primary cards have no such feature/device as part of them. I use card sets in my D7200 in overflow or sometimes nef/jpg config. not easy to "see" when you think you never touched it.

Lexar does not mark it but SanDisk does.

Been there, done that. Bugged the heck out of me too.

That little tab - and the way it's implemented - is one reason I dislike SD cards. In my case that little tab has dislodged while inserting the card in my laptop, similarly making the card unusable. Being so small it's a bit of a task to put it back in, as well.

Yep, same here. Can be frustrating trying to figure out what's wrong.

Maybe a small drop of glue would help.

I don't recall the brand but my first SD cases seemed deliberately designed to break the tab off. What a pain. But it did make me a hero with a Rebel soccer mom who saw my rig and asked me why she wasn't capturing shots. I would have had no clue otherwise. It's a goofy, over delicate feature.

The little tab is why they are called "Secure" Digital. In many years of using them I have never needed the "feature".

I don't think so. IIRC, secure referred to CPRM provisions added in the transition from multimedia cards to SD cards.

I didn't know you could password protect an SD card, set it to read only, and other options. Turns out to be far more secure than the little tab.
