p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Four water shots from Yosemite

There are a lot of different types of photos I take. In a earlier post this weekend I mentioned abstract images and thought I would present these 4 as a set with location and water being common to all. All were shot in Yosemite Valley on the Merced. I realize the first one isn't truly abstract. The first just a short distance upriver from Yosemite View and the rest from the swinging bridge.. None are manipulated. The water did that work for me!

Hi Paul,

#2 is my favorite because of the colors and the lack of visible boundaries as if the pattern goes on forever in all directions. #3 is certainly an interesting take on the falls and a nice one. I wonder what #4 would have looked like with a polarizer?

Thanks for posting,
keith

I didn't really care for the triangular sky patch of #3 at first view. Realizing what it was, I rotated 180 to put the sky on top again (understood @ reflection). In doing so (CTRL/ALT/Arrow), I rotated the entire bunch 180 and found them (even the hanging rock) to be a bit preferred orientation.

I prefer 1 because it is less abstract, the rock and piece of shore gives it place and identity. Abstract is disorienting to me.

Paul,

1 - Clone the branch in upper-left and rock in lower-right - I feel these both distract. Might need a little NR. Have you thought about a mono conversion?

2 - I like it. Very painterly and pleasing IMO. I'd clone the darker tan/brown blob at the edge in the upper-right.

3 - I feel the patch of sky is distracting and doesn't fit with the rest of the image, especially abstract. The change in color and texture is too jarring/distracting for me.

4 - I always love eddies, especially in mono! You've got a nice flow through the image following the curves of the eddies. I'd look to see how a less contrasty version would look as I'm seeing almost no midtones. Maybe a lil sharpening to boot?

Fun set!

Cheers,

Jeff

Image one is really nice! The water almost looks like clouds. I like image 3 also.
