Take a look at the review by thomasdmiller at the appstore page for the Nikon Wireless Mobile Utility. Here is an excerpt...
"Steps to make it work:
put iPhone in airplane mode via Settings
put Nikon camera into wifi connect mode
have them reasonably close, like on the desk in front of you
open iPhone wifi settings, turn on wifi and select your camera
connection process will start, during which you should open the WMU app on iPhone
WMU menu allows you to choose Take Photos (remote control with live view) or View Photos (phone camera roll, pics on the camera, latest downloads).
Use app as desired for tethered shooting or cross loading photos
When finished, power-down camera and close app (kill it via home-button double-click, swipe up)
disengage iPhone airplane mode in settings, get back on your regular wifi if necessary."
I personally use qdslrdashboard and a nexus 7 android tablet and have no problems.
