p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Ditch the Sigma 24-105mm Art for 35mm Art?

I picked up the Sigma 24-105mm f/4 Art lens a while back, so I could have an all around nice zoom in image stabilization. It's a really nice lens, is sharp, and has great OS. However, I'm now in a dual camera setup for portraiture, and am leaning towards the 35mm art lens. I own the Canon 70-200, which is far better for portraits, and the 50L as well. I'm toying with having the 35 Art on one body, and either the 70-200 or the 135L on the other body.

What do you guys think? Is this a redundant lens in your opinion? I also have come to love primes, and just sort of want to move over to them.

Second, do you think that, at their equal price point, I could get a trade for the 35 Art for my 24-105 Art? My lens is in immaculate condition. Thanks guys?

Having had the 35 and own the 24-105, whilst planning to pick up the 70-200 (again) next week then I'd 100% go with the 35 & 70-200 setup.
The 35/1.4 A is probably the lens I most regret selling and matches the 70-200 perfectly.

Thanks for the reply. That's the setup I want to experiment with. While shooting with 2 bodies, I want to be able to get environmental shots with the 35, and everything else with the 70-200. While I sometimes like to use the 135 and soon with my feet, the 70-200 is so convenient.

you forgot to mention what bodies you are using them on, and which 70-200mm version.
Anyway, looking at your pics, I wonder if indeed you need a faster lens - f1.4
Maybe you should consider the 24-70mkII, but if portraits is your main goal, then indeed a 85 or 135 will help you more- but keep the Sigma if you can.

if you like manual focus, then you have more options if you willing to consider a legacy lens

I'm shooting with a 5D3 and a newly acquired 5DS. The 70-200 is the 2.8L IS II.
Thanks for checking out my website, I really appreciate you taking the time to do that. I've been enjoying shooting primes whenever I can. I love my 50L and 135L. I thought about the 24-70, but it's insanely expensive, and I'd like to shoot wider than 2.8 whenever possible.

I don't ever really need to shoot wider than 35mm for anything. My ideal setup would be the 35 art and the 135L on different bodies, but when I need to work faster, I think I'll opt for the 35 art and the 70-200. If I can get an even trade for the 24-105 I'd be very happy. Then if Sigma ever releases the fabled 85mm Art, I'd be set for lenses forever I think.

I'm going to be starting to do some video work coming up, and that's really the only reason I'm hesitant about getting rid of the 24-105. But I can easily use the 35 Art on a monopod with video head when I need those same shots, but need it more stabilized.
