p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Canon Wireless Printing on a Mac

Does anyone know how to set up a Canon printer (PIXMA IP8720) wirelessly on a Mac? Canon's "documentation" is woeful, absolutely embarrassing. The printer ships only with Windows software and I cannot find anything at Canon's website other than the OS X driver. It appears that there should be some type of set up software that gets the printer onto the wireless network but I can't find it anywhere.

A real dismal effort from Canon to say the least.

Anyone have any pointers how I can get this printer working? Canon didnt even bother to ship a cable with the printer for those who don't want to print wirelessly.

Thanks.

Nope. That's why I am so confused. I installed the drivers but can see nothing in the system preferences.

I have two different Canon wireless printers and had no trouble at all setting them up. You first have to set up the printer on the printer's display by selecting your wifi network and entering your password. Then just open System Preferences, Printer & Scanners, then under the Printers box on the left side I clicked the + button on the lower left. A window pops up with both printers and you just click on the printer you want to set up.

This printer has no display.

Yes, and it is of no help at all.

Here is another.....did you press the wireless button on the front controls and then see if you can see it on your network?

Yes, I do need that, except I'm using a Mac and Canon apparently does not support OS X.

Very odd in 2015/2016.

See around page 14.

I have a MX472 and PRO-100 installed on two Macs, so Canon does support Mac.

Be sure you install IJ printer driver and not the Bonjour driver.

After you get it working, remember to tell the wireless router to assign the same IP to the printer all the time.

I cannot do page 8 because there is no software to work with. I have installed the driver as directed by the manual but once that is finished I have nothing to work with. The installation program closes and my driver has been installed. I

Canon's manual is not worth the electron's it has been printed on. I cannot believe how incompetent Canon is.

Does it actually need a driver? My father has a totally cheap MG3250 and it talks to his ipad via Apple AirPrint.

Yes, I have installed the driver but am dead after that because I have no way of connecting my "wireless" printer to my network. The printer has no controls and my Mac has no controls. I'm completely dead. 9 days and still not a page printed.

Not yet. I went out to buy a cable today but Best Buy wanted $30 for one. Amazon has one for sale for $4. I'll have to order one and wait.

Sigh.............

THANK YOU!!!! I followed your link and found that was different from the link straight from CanonUSA.com. At CanonUSA.com, there is nothing but a generic driver that I installed.

Your link is TOTALLY different from what I found at CanonUSA.com and was EXACTLY what I needed.

I CANNOT thank you enough! This was easily one of THE most frustrating experiences I have had on a computer since my Windows days.

Now, here's one last problem. I set this printer up in an area where I dont want it long term. What happens if I unplug it and move it? Do I have to redo this all over again? I am so loathe to do that, it was THAT painful.

I can't believe that Canon was so stupid to not include this software on a CD. It would be 1000 times easier. Why the hell didnt they include a web address to get this software from? CanonUSA had nothing to help me with.

HUGE thanks!!!
