I went out to test a new (to me D4) to see what it could do. I was looking for a sure thing, so I visited one of my favorite spots to photograph rutting deer.

The first shot is in the spirit of Thanksgiving... turkeys under a different (and unexpected) threat. The second was just a nice buck portrait shot at iso1600... an iso territory that I have avoided in the past.

Cheers,
bruce

Great captured moment in first shot. Can't think of a funny caption. "In a turkey rut"?

You must have a lot of deer and turkeys around there.

THAT is a cool shot Bruce!
I have never heard of a deer interacting with turkey before. I do know they typically avoid each other so this buck clearly had some serious attitude going on there.

I would say your D4 has welcomed you nicely to the high iso world. That is a beautiful portrait shot.

Haven't remarked on any photos on here for ages but had to do it this time,

The rut does interesting things to the male's mind! Great behavioral capture Bruce.

Very nice shots, Bruce. The turkeys in the background look as if they're thinking, "man, I'm glad I'm not Tom right now".

Thanks for giving the pic a look Tony, the turkey's occasionally mob the deer in this state park... this little guy had a enough of that!

I agree Dave... that D4 is a magic in low light!

Thanks Tim... I'd never seen a buck charge turkeys before, just glad I had the forethought to press the shutter while it was happening

Yeah, I'm struggling to figure out the best image size for FM posts... too small, not enough detail... too big and you fill a laptop screen.
