this shot was taken on sunday evening at marshall's beach in san francisco. it was the first time i had been there and i had to run all the way down the stairs to get there before the sun went down. ended up getting pretty soggy but i'd do it again.
any suggestions on how to improve the image would be much appreciated.

Nice one. Composition is good and you caught the light on the clouds and the reflection on the beach perfectly. The only thing I would definitely change would be to remove the black dots (ships?) on the horizon. You could play with a little bit lighter sky and shadow areas, although I like the dark silhouettes. If you want more in depth critique try the Photo Critique board, there are some very helpful and friendly people who hang out over there.

Heron-
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I appreciate the tip on the critique forum. I've never posted there before so I'll have to give it a try. The reflection is what I liked most about this image. I'll have to remove the spots on the horizon. One is mile rock and I believe the other is a ship.

It looks like the horizon slants just slightly to the left, too.

That EF 16-35mm F/4 IS is one fantastic lens!!! I see again and again more spectacular photos taken w/ that lens than any other specific lens.

That's a great scene. I love seeing reflections on the sand.
You may want to clone out or crop off the little bit of sand in the far lower left corner.

i'm not sure i've ever seen a reflection in the sand before. when i saw it i was really hoping it would come across. thanks for the suggestion on the sand. i'll have a look at that.
