So most go to Bolsa Chica for the pelicans diving and catching the thousands of small fish by the bridge. I found the action lots of fun and a great exercise in tracking even as the birds came within just a few feet of me. But of course my favorite photo of the day had nothing to do with the avian residents but a first, for me, sighting of a guitarfish....Eric Clapton, play this one if you can.

Congrats on the guitar fish Eric. That's a first for me here. Is it the twelve string or the standard six string subspecies ?

I never heard of a guitarfish yet I'm confident that Eric Clapton could make sweet music with it.

Thanks Mike...it was surprisingly clear and when I saw this big guy I knew it was something I'd only seen in an aquarium before.

Thanks Herb...luckily it isn't one of the electric types.

Thanks Tim....it reminded me of shooting eagles at the pond but with the people a bit more chill...and the weather less chilly Next time I'll give you more than 24 hours notice.

Thanks Tim...quite unexpected for me as well...if I had known better I would have taken my 24-70 and 70-200....reach was not an issue for these guys.

Thanks Ray...I'd seen them in aquariums (Atlanta, Disney World) but never thought I'd actually see one in the wild...luckily the water was shallow and clear and we just happened to walk by at the moment it came out of the underwater grasses.

It took me awhile to process exactly what I was seeing....I suspect the locals see this frequently but aren't particularly interested since they are there for the fliers. New finds are always exciting even if they are commonplace for someone else.
