p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Vancouver Island with D800E + Zeiss

In 2011 I visited Vancouver Island together with the Olympic NP for the first time. Sadly I had only about one week on the island and could only explore the southeastern part. Therefore I decided to return this summer. This trip was again a combination of a nice relaxed family vacation with some serious landscape photography.

My photography kit consisted of two Nikon D800E, a Gitzo tripod, some filters and just two lenses: the Zeiss Otus 55mm and the Zeiss Distagon 21mm.

This was also the first trip where my daughter Linnéa was doing some photography by herself. I gave her my Nikon 1 AW1 with the kit zoom. You can find her images in this thread:
https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1396939

I will start with some images shot at the cities of Vancouver and Victoria and will add some images from different places on Vancouver Island during the next days.

C&C as always very welcome.

Boris

No, I was afraid that it would be too touristy. But maybe this assumption was wrong.

On the first 4 nights we stayed at the Goldstream Provincial Park campground. After exploring Victoria and the Goldstream Falls we did a day trip to Botany Bay at the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail Provincial Park.

Then we decided to camp a night at Sombrio Beach, which turned out to be a really great place with lots of opportunities for landscape photography. We even got a lucky wildlife shot (remember my longest lens was 55mm!).

Amazing shots Boris as usual! My two favorite landscape lenses! Great capture of the Hawk eating another one of its own! Amazing how close you were able to get to it with the 55, wow! Hope that was not the female eating her mate. My favorite is that Sombrio beach waterfall.
Olympic NP and that area have been on my to see list and I hope to get there soon! Thanks for sharing.

Awesome set of photos, Boris!

I especially like your city shots, but they are all excellent. Nice PP on these and good match to the PP you did on your daughter's images.

I haven't been everywhere in the world, but the Pacific Northwest is my favorite area for outdoors and exciting, changing conditions.

Congrats!

Oh yes, it's very touristy, and only has a few actually scenic areas. I just couldn't resist the wordplay

Lovely shots! I was in Victoria a few days ahead of you, but that was the only place where our two trips overlapped. I was in Alaska and spent several days in my old hometown of Seattle as well. The only photo we have somewhat in common is of the Empress hotel (I had early evening light but was shooting with the APS Coolpix A, so a lot less detail)...

As long as I lived in the area, I spent a lot of time in the city of Vancouver, a bit in Victoria, but never really got out and explored Vancouver Island. These shots are a really nice travelogue - thanks!

These are great, super vibrant and super sharp. Really engaging. What's going on with the water in #1 around the bridge? It seems to change dramatically and draws my eye.

Great images Bobu, I live in Courtenay on the island and I have to put up with scenery like this all the time, .
Vancouver Island in a photographers paradise, no matter what time of year it is there are images to be made.
Hope you can come back again.

Thanks Ray! And very nice shot of the Empress with more than enough detail for a web image.
