p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Trichia With Ripe Capsules

Yesterday, on some rotten wood in my garden, I saw what I though was the start of development of a slime mould colony. On closer examination, I found it to be already developed, with ripe spore capsules, which I had not previously found for this genus.

I previously used my Kiron 105mm with a Raynox supplementary:

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1336549/

This time, I used my reversed Schneider HM 40mm plus x 1.5TC.

I had two sessions, one in daylight, kneeling on cold, wet leaves, one by torchlight, sitting on a cold, wet bench. It's nice to have a choice! . The second session was because I missed the focus on the ripe ones. (There is no clear structure on the shiny surface to focus on).

The highlight on the shiny surface show that only an extreme amount of diffusion will give perfect illumination. Triple diffused flash were used for these.

The stereos are crosseye.

Fascinating and well done Harold. I'm starting to wonder about your yard because you stated "Yesterday, on some rotten wood in my garden..." Left intentionally to grow photo subjects?

Left intentionally as a wildlife resource. Something similar is likely to be required in plans for new housing developments.

Thanks, Brian.

I was out in a couple of woods this morning and these seem to be in their peak season, with capsules right through to deep black. I got some better shots with the stalk sculpturing showing well, where the DOF is critical.

Great photography Harold and super interesting. Believe it or not I often think of your photos when I see things on the forest floor

Thanks Tim.

I hope you don't mean doggy-does!

Today, seeing was an issue. I found a large colony of these in a local wood. It wasn't until I framed a group of orange ones that I saw a tight clump of very black ones in the frame.
