New D810 Firmware released (C1.10)

DOWLOAD HERE: http://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/download/fw/156.html

Changelog:

• An External recording control option has been added to the HDMI item in the SETUP MENU. If the camera is connected via HDMI to a third-party recorder that supports the Atomos Open Protocol (the Atomos SHOGUN, NINJA2, or NINJA BLADE), selecting On allows camera controls to be used to start and stop recording. More information is available in a supplementary manual.
Note: Choose an option other than 576p (progressive) or 480p (progressive) for HDMI > Output resolution in the SETUP MENU.

• Fixed the following issues:
- Incorrect distances were shown in the camera playback info display for photographs taken with an optional flash unit in distance-priority manual (GN) mode.
- The brightness of the live view photography display would not change when a command dial was rotated to adjust exposure compensation with On (Auto reset) selected for b Metering/exposure > b4 Easy exposure compensation > Easy exposure compensation in the CUSTOM SETTING MENU.
- Although the preview button would stop the lens down to maximum aperture when assigned the Preview role, the maximum aperture indicator would not appear in the monitor.
- In rare cases, the shutter would not be released when the user attempted to take photographs in movie live view.
- About 4 seconds of static could be heard on audio recorded with external HDMI recorders during movie live view.
- The shutter speed, aperture, and ISO sensitivity displayed in the monitor during movie live view would differ from values in the final movie file.
- Volume could sometimes not be adjusted if movies were played with indicators hidden during full-frame playback (None (image only)).
- Exposure compensation would fail to produce the desired results if a negative value was selected when NEF (RAW) images were processed using the NEF (RAW) processing option in the RETOUCH MENU.
- Images would in rare cases fail to record correctly with HDR (high dynamic range) selected in the SHOOTING MENU.
- If On was selected for Exposure smoothing during interval timer photography, every frame after the first would be overexposed.
- File numbers were not assigned in the proper sequence.
- In some languages, characters or parts of characters would be missing from the SETUP MENU > Location data > Position display.
- In some languages, characters or parts of characters would be missing from the SETUP MENU > AF fine-tune > List saved values display.
• Some help text has been changed.

On my side it seems to have fixed the lag/delay when accessing menus or image review... no more of the annoying hourglass symbol. Live View is also quicker to come on and the 100% magnification zoom is also more responsive.

This was something I really wanted fixed, and it seems to have been a quiet fix.

Anyone else notice the speed improvement?

^^^ Can't try it out until tonight myself, but quite often firmware updates have general speed/stability increases not always published in the change log.

The other thing to watch is if you use a lot of third party glass, sometimes the newer firmware affects compatibility.

Yes, it seems much more responsive in both menu selection and photo review.

Are you saying that uploading this firmware to my D810 could cause problems with some of the lei Leitax adapted OM Zuiko lenses I have been using?

uintaangler,

More likely the comment was regarding compatibility with Tamron / Sigma / Tokina autofocus lenses. The Leitaxed OM is manual focus only.

No way to say 100% for sure, but historically the issues I've heard of have been with Sigma/Tamron/Tokina. Those companies reverse engineer the Nikon electronic requirements, and sometimes require a firmware update if anything changes on the Nikon end. The companies are usually pretty good about fixing them. Anything that uses a basic connection and is MF will probably not be an issue.

It's sad to see that Nikon's way of dealing with Sigma starting to produce better glass for less money (35mm _50mm_85mm f/1.4) or even offerings that Nikon doesn't make (24-35mm f/2) is to try to make their bodies incompatible with Sigma glass.

Maybe I shouldn't be in such a hurry to replace my D700.

^ I'm not sure they TRY to generate incompatibility, does anyone have evidence of this?

Thom Hogan mentions a distortion control update and has a link to it as well, for Distortion Control Data version 2 Ver.2.009 2015/05/28.

That looks to be the most current version.

Yeah, that was released at the end of May, together with the current versions of View NX-i and Capture NX-D. They do not support distortion corrections for the last three Nikkor lenses - the 24mm f/1.8, 200-500mm f/5.6 and 24-70mm f/2.8 VR. Moreover, the installation of the distortion control file fails in OS X El Capitan (but works in Windows 10)...

Looking around the web, the comment most people seem to be making is the camera is generally a lot snappier after the firmware update (menus, live view, image review, etc.)

Put the Sigma 35 Art on my D810 after the firmware update; it is performing at 100% (sharpness) as best I can determine...

EDIT: Also the Sigma 24-105 Art, also still tack sharp with no need for re-docking and fine tuning, post firmware update.
