To all you sports shooters, specifically canon, what type of metering do you like to use when shooting day time soccer?

Well it depends where you are pointing in reference to the sun. Fully backlit subjects (I do not recommend shooting a lot in this direction) you might consider partial or even spot. Normally with sun at your back or side I'm in evaluative (circle with the dot in the middle).

I primarily use partial with EC whose value depends on uniform color.

Evaluative. I have tried spot but it did not work at all. Depending on if you were hitting the light or the dark uniforms the exposures were all over the place, with not many of them good. If you could stay on the face it might be a good solution but I know I can't do that.

4 AF point expansion. I found that, when using the larger area evaluative mode, the player with the ball may slightly out of focus or "soft" whereas the defender is in focus. Shooting for face, ball, & action and cull a lot of shots.

Depends on the location of the sun AND the color of the uniform since your spot meter would be on the uniform

+1

No automatic exposure when shooting sports. Set your exposure off the sky or the grass and go from there.
