p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Painted Hill, Painted Valley

A pair of early morning shots at the Painted Hills Unit of John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. The valley is a 4 frame pano shot with Pentax 67 200mm on Canon 7D. Feedback always welcome.

Heron,
Both nice shots. Personally I would consider cropping out a third of the sky in #1 with a 5:7 crop, which keeps all the clouds. Like the colors/detail in #2. i believe most of my PH keepers are also stitched.

Thanks Dave, I did try some crops with less sky but I like the extra space and the extra blue.

Thanks for the comment and the pick Dan, it was a very pleasant scene and I had the place to myself until an hour after sunrise. When I went back for sunset, there were hordes of people.

Well done! I like both shots, especially the colors, subdued but surreal. Hard to get a sense of scale in the first one unless you have been there. I like the way it flows through the middle.

(My college roommate grew up in Mitchell. The stories he could tell.....
We are still best friends forty years later)

Thanks for the comment Art, the Painted Hills certainly is one of those spots where the scale can be hard to determine from photos, probably 'cause there's not really anywhere else like it. And I bet it was fascinating getting the inside perspective on Mitchell, I can only imagine what it's like living out there.
