How about it. The distortion in the 16-35s is irritating.

I am a fan of detail in my wide-angle nature shots and have had to resort to shooting panos at longer focal lengths (>24mm) to accomplish "this". Shooting a 17mm TS-E at 21MP on a 5D2 has left me wanting as this lens begs for more megapixels, IMHO. FWIW, I've courted several sellers over the years about their Sigma 20mm f/1.8's, but every sample I've seen suffered severely in the corners with distortion and softness with heavy vignetting wide open. I also experimented with Canon's 10-22mm on crop sensors and found the corners to be, again, too soft and distorted in the corners for my tastes which pretty much sums up my experience with their 16-35mm f/2.8 L II on FF, as well. (I have not shot the f/4 version of this lens.) And Zeiss's 21mm f/2.8 ZE has tempted me more times than I can remember but I haven't been able to convince myself that I'd be happy shooting that lens with only 21MP either.
Sooo, my use for this Sigma (that it turns out to be a winner) would be to grab one in an EF mount and use it on the a7R and see what that combo had to offer me. Also, such a f/1.4 lens would be very advantageous for nightscapes as others have already noted...2-stops lower ISOs for equal exposure durations as shooting that ZE 21mm @ f/2.8 sounds good to me! Hoping for the best here for all of us with this new Sigma!

. I will say it's a big, heavy beast but not unmanageable on an ungripped D810.
