Excellent! I wasn't too impressed with Nikon's 20 1.8 and was about to pull the trigger on Sigma's 24 1.4. If they really did focus on coma control as stated on the photo rumors site this will be my next purchase.

Ah guess that the two companies/lens lines have a totally non-overlapping user bases.
Regardless, the old 20/1.8 and 28/1.8 need an update, though I thought that if Sigma does that the naked parameters aren't going to change.

I doubt it until I see it. Sigma knew they made a mis-step with the Art 24.

What do you mean by that?
Thanks.

I've heard good things about the 24 art, that it's better than canon's 24Lii, but not significantly like the 35 and 50 arts are to their counterparts. More coma than the Samyang so it's not the best astro but the best event lens

I'd really like sigma to redo their 70-200mm 2.8.

Well it's not a rumor any more, as it's up for preorder on B&H:

Strange that there's been no press release from Sigma though, I think B&H may have jumped the gun slightly!

Pre-ordered. I've been waiting for this lens for a long time. if the coma is indeed well controlled, it'll make a heck of an aurora/star/night lens. It'll also be great for creative shallow depth of field stuff as well as traditional landscapes and perhaps architecture. And man, the price is actually reasonable. The annoying part is that I've got a second copy of the Nikon 20 f/1.8 heading to Juneau right now to replace my first copy which had horrible coma along one side. Don't know if I'll keep it and put it head to head with the Sigma or just send it back. Gotta love too many choices!

Edge and corner sharpness isn't great and quite a lot of astigmatism. So probably not a good astro lens.

Are the MTF's better than the Voigtlander? Looks like a great lens, just big. I'd like a lens like this, 20mm is one of my favorite general lenses but this looks massive, can't take filters, and won't come out for Sony for a million years. I suppose the 24 is the better option for now

And I have just scratched my plan of getting the Otus 28.... . We'll see. This time Sigma actually emphasizes on the coma control aspect of it. And that MTF looks remarkably like the Art 24.

Dang. Well, we'll see. I'll compare it to the Nikon 20 f/1.8 and keep the better of the two I suppose.

I don't use it as an "astro" lens but for everything else, I find the Art 24 quite an amazing lens. For landscape on FF 36MP's, it's extremely sharp across the frame by 5.6. For interiors it exhibits very low distortion and for people/ environmental it's very sharp wide open. It is the best 24/25 I have used.

I understand Lenstip coma testing shows the 24 Art to not be that great, but it's supposed to still have better coma control than the Canon and Nikon OEM lenses.

Is the Sigma 24 Art a good "real world" astro lens if you stop down to f/2?

Regards
Dave

In this thread the poster seems to think the 24 Art is good for astro... Maybe worth sending him a PM?
