p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Sentinal on the Rocks, Bristcone Pine, 4x5 B&W

This trip to the Bristlecone Pines was a more than planned for.
Leaving early Sunday morn, Tioga Pass was open, Sonora closed.
By the time we got to Big Oak Flat, Tioga was closed.
Loitered in Yosemite for a few hours but pass wasn't going to open.
Ended up costing us a 5 hour detour to Monitor Pass. I think it was worth the delay
Sorry for the skies, but that's what you get when there's a snow storm

Both shot with a Toyo 4x5, 90mm. Developed this morning.

Still have the 4x5 color shots at the lab & will post when I get them scanned.

Great shots Dan! I actually don't mind the skies at all here. I think they serve to really emphasize the gnarled nature of these ancient trees.

I like the first shot quite a bit, although I sort of wished that you had isolated the tree from the other branch on the ground on its right hand side. In my opinion that would have really added to the mood and the scene.

I thought about that while framing. If I panned or positioned around to the left, another large tree intruded. So I let it be included. Thanks for the comments

Both nice stark portraits of some amazing specimens. I like 2 a little better for the tight framing and the more interesting foreground. The bleak sky works fine for me.

Alan,
Thanks. I think the white neg space works w/B&W We'll see how the color comes out.
