My philosophy on buying lenses. In this order of preference.
1.) Accurate focus. It does no good to have a lens that is f1.2 or f1.4 if is misses focus.
2.) Lightening fast focus. Many of the f1.2 and f1.4 lenses are dogs when it comes to acquiring focus especially in low light situations. If I have to wait while the lens hunts then I want to take it off and throw it against the wall. This is often the case with f1.2 and 1.4 lenses.
3.) Weight. I'm all about reducing weight on the body the I bring up to my eye.
4.) Repair system support offered by the manufacture. Nikon and Canon have pretty decent system in place for supporting pro shooters. Are third party companies able to provide the same level of support?
5.) Image Quality and Bokeh. Over rated. Clients can not tell the difference between a shot taken with an f1.2, f1.4, f1.8, f2 or f2.8 lens. In fact most of us can't tell the difference either unless the same image is seen side by side with the two different lenses in question. All of the camera manufactures (Nikon, Canon, Sony, Olympus etc) produce stunning lenses in this day and age that will produce wonderful results. You have to be more careful with 3rd party manufactures.
Having said all that I have sold all my heavy, slow focusing, expensive f1.2 and 1.4 lenses in favor of the more, economical, lighter weight, faster focusing and more accurate f1.8 prime lenses.
