My Kiron 105 is on an adapter which permits attachment of a second flash gun. However, mushrooms often grow where one of more freestanding guns can give more flexibility

The third image was one of several of this group of mushrooms. I didn't get what I really wanted but one freestanding flash below and to the left and another above and to the right gave this effect.

The fourth image gave a different problem, of DOF. This one was the best compromise at f16. I chose this group, on the end of a dead branch (on the ground) to give the composition I wanted, rather than other options, with the bracket fungi only on one side.

The leaves in the last image are not of clover but much large ones of Wood-Sorrel Oxalis acetosella

Thanks, Brian.

Yes, that group are like miniature sculptures. I missed the focus on some detail, such that the stereo is only partly successful.

These are sweet Harold, things that I'm sure most of us would not even see.

Thanks, Douglas.

I have the advantage of 40+ years of mushroom hunting experience.

Also, a walk in the woods in high summer may find none of these. A walk in the autumn, preferably a week or two after substantial rainfall, is more likely to be productive. However, on a sunny day, dappled sunlight on yellow and brown fallen leaves makes spotting many species very difficult.

Thanks, Birdie.

I have just ordered some adjustable spikes (a bit like mini monopods) to give me more flexibility with my off-camera, freestanding flash.

These are beautiful. I think these might cause me to pay a bit more attention to mushrooms moving forward.

Thanks.

The most reliable source is on rotten wood (often moss-covered), where humidity is maintained. The good thing about mushrooms is the modest magnifications required for most.
