p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Acrobat X Pro convert from PDF to Excel ...

I realize this isn't exactly a PP&P topic, but since there are a ton of Adobe guru's here ... hoping someone will have an answer or direction for this one.

So, I have the perpetual copy of Acrobat X Pro. This is not the Reader, but the FULL version that I purchased. So, now when I try to convert anything, it simply launches me to a sign up page for purchasing a subscription service, based on the number of conversions I might want to do, etc..

I called Adobe, but after four phone calls, of using their prompt system and getting disconnecting for choosing a prompt that doesn't have phone support, I finally got a live person by selecting a subscription product instead. The person then promptly informed me that I could not receive phone support for Acrobat X Pro. It's an older product he said, (which I bought new from Adobe in 2012). He tried to give me a website to go to. I asked him twice to repeat the site, but I truly could not understand the parts of the site other than "Adobe.com" as the accent was interfering too much.

So ...

How do I get Acrobat X Pro to function in the manner for which I purchased it to do conversions? It seems as if they have somehow updated it to be disabled and only refer me to the subscription service sign up pages upon attempt to make a conversion. I'm wondering if I uninstall, and re-install from the original disc if I'll be able to reset it to a functioning state? Or, is there something else I should be doing?

This is tantamount to buying a car, and then 3 years later the mfr disabling the ECU so you can't use it anymore and have to take it into the shop where they require you to sign up for a new lease agreement, even though you already paid cash upfront, in full, to own the car outright, free and clear.

I get that they might now want to give "primo phone service" for anything less than their precious subscription model ... but this takes the concept of "hostage" beyond what we've seen to date in the PS realm that I'm aware of. I mean, CS6 still functions just fine. My Acrobat X Pro has effectively been disabled by Adobe. What keeps them from doing the same to other products, via such intrusive updates?

Any help regarding how to restore the functionality of Acrobat X Pro is appreciated.

TIA

Not sure what you are experiencing, but my Acrobat X is working as it always has. I also have the full version that has been updated when Adobe supplied one. You might try either updating or reinstalling.

Okay ... thanks. Good to hear. I'll see if a re-install does the trick then.

Are you sure that the software that you launched was Acrobat X, and not the reader version of Acrobat DC? If both are installed on your computer (as the Adobe update apps wants you to do), your computer may default to launching Acrobat DC instead. Acrobat reader DC has these options of paying for module or subscription that Acrobat X does not have.

You should force Acrobat X for the file you want, either by doing a right click open with, or by changing the default software to open the pdf file.
