Well done. Amazing how the old camera still gets it done. (OK I've got that antique too so maybe I'm biased).

Looks nice and all... but a motion-blurred subject in a panning shot, with the front part of the car cropped (missed), over-exposed (muted colors)?

Not sure how this is an example extolling the virtues of what is certainly a great camera. Higher SS, and more perpendicular position to the subject, with a quicker response/leading on the subject, lower exposure with shadows lifted a touch... would have done it a little differently.

... Not over exposed in LR. Calibrated a couple months ago with Spyder3. Do need a new monitor though (along with a calibration software upgrade) ... I have "vertical lines", like banding starting to show, 5yr. old Dell monitor Don't think that would affect exposure ... but then again, I was wrong once ...

Artistic License when he does it, screw up when others do it.

There is much good about your shots, Jefferson ole bean, such as your great panning skills and a "feeling" for motorcar racing.

However, you seem to prefer very tight framing which often results in subject cut-offs. That should not be difficult for you to fix, and your pictures would benefit from it, trust me. Whenever possible, try to leave yourself some framing margin, or some subject "breathing space".

Turn off the "use graphic processor" in LR preferences. I've had the same thing on my less than one year old Nec Spectraview. I was mad as hell because I exchanged 2 units with various technical issues before this one (third time's the charm)... I found out later that I was getting the vertical bands only in LR and they disappeared when I disabled the so called performance boost in preferences.

As for the artistic licence and other stuff... it ruins the photos. Period.

FYI... If you rely on the Lr histogram then be aware that it is based on the pro photo rgb colour space and the bright end of the range is well overexposed in the sRGB colour space. You can see a difference in the histogram when you do a soft-proof for sRGB in the develop module.
