I'm experiencing problems under LED or Fluorescent lighting.
Nothing to note under tungsten or daylight but LED and Fluorescent is terrible.
Do I have a bad sensor or is this a known characteristic?

The problem is magnified by using a high ISO and fast shutter speed.
Take a look at my test, all manual so each column should be consistent.
What I get is a huge soft horizontal darkening across the entire frame.

I've tested the "flicker reduction" on P380 in the manual but it doesn't really help.

Here's a closer shot...
CLOSER

Maybe I posted prematurely,,,
I just did the same test with my D300 with similar results although not as significant.
So this is definitely a lighting issue with the frequency of the LED light sources.
I had no idea how sensitive it was...

fluorescents cycle and some older/less priced LED arrays/lamps do too. it is not your camera. the rate on a fluorescent is 60hz in the US and Canada with a rise and decay in that cycle. LEDs can vary but are generally the same 60Hz in our area but with little to no rise/decay time. there are continuous drive output LED lights.

I understand what you're saying, I'm really surprised at the pronounced effect.
I want the higher ISO for a higher shutter speed but everywhere you go LED lights are more and more common so it's back to a slower shutter speed.
One step forward, one step back.

why? your camera can record up to 1/4000 sec. that is a minuscule amount of time. most LEDs today are full time (non cycling) depending on their usage.

Why am I surprised?
I'm surprised because I've never seen it so much.
At 1/200th I can see the result under mixed LED and daylight in my kitchen on skin tones.
However it's not as noticeable at 1/200.

Holding to this theory, it would be even worse in Europe where it's 50hz.

I definitely understand it now, I just wasn't expecting it.
I'll be changing some light bulbs in my office.

If you're prepared for it, then you can deal with it.
