In November 2014, I had a 7d2 and it could not focus-it was always just a little soft-and many others reported similar results. Sent it back, bit the bullet and got a 1dx. So, thank you 7d2 for helping me get the 1dx. I wanted the 7d2 to work, but it was just a bit off focus wise and nothing I did could make it work.
In July, I took a chance and got another 7d2 and this one is very sharp.
It's really pretty accurate in good lighting. Like really sharp. In bad lighting, it's OK -compared to the 1dx - but better than most other bodies, so overall, a really good value.
As far as noise, its just OK. Its really good at lower ISOs, like below 3200, but above that, it gets a bit too noisy - usable, but I am spoiled by what I know the 1dx can do. I will say that I have not yet found the secret sauce for noise reduction for the 7d2, so maybe my opinion on noise will change as I get better at managing it.
I think it is a great camera for wildlife (crop factor) and in good to mediocre lighting for sports. I do like the anti-flicker tech for HS football fields, but at high ISOs, I am going to use the 1dx as my main body. If I was shooting wildlife in good light, I'd probably grab the 7d2 for reach. I'd love to see the anti-flicker in the 1dx.
I use the grip and two new batteries and can shoot several thousand images without issue. This is mostly burst sports stuff, with a medium amount of chimping and the GPS turned off.
I found single point focusing more accurate. Multiple surrounding points seem to more often than not locked onto something I had not intended. But, I am still getting used to the 7d2 and the AF intricacies. ...Show more →
I have spent a whole week tweaking and adjusting and shooting this 7DmkII and NOTHING day or night shots has ever, EVER come even remotely close to being as sharp as your images. We are using the BRAND NEW Canon 70-200 f/2.8 vII from ISO 100 to 6400 full on clear sky day to gym needing 6400, subject standing still and moving.
My 10 y/o 1DmkIIn has significantly better results than this wonder brick called the 7DmkII... I will make more adjustments tomorrow and Tuesday then in all reality, it goes back to B&H on Thursday when they open back up.
It absolutely should not take me two weeks of making various changes to get $3,700 of equipment to work correctly.
