Find that used prices are close.....not the 36a BTW, But older model. I know the 20 is much older than the latter.

Have d800 and shoot landscapes with and w/out little stopper. Also interested in night shots of milky way.

Advice please!

Damnit no response. I have never used any nikon remote release, coming from canon in 2o12. they offer the $10 remote that works on all models, even the $3,000 ones

Get the MC36 or save your money and buy one of the following:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/840099-REG/Vello_rc_n1ii_Shutterboss_Version_II_Timer.html

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/765671-REG/Vello_RS_N1II_Wired_Remote_for.html

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/875860-REG/vello_ir_n2_infrared_remote_for_nikon.html

They all work great and build quality is excellent. The first 2 will trigger AF with a half press as well.

Get the MC-30, that's all I have ever used. I shoot star shots all the time, you can't beat it. Get the new version MC-30a as they changed the the knurled fitting that locks it in and it's a great improvement.

As for Vello, I personally have had horrible luck with them, and will never use them again. Even their simple remote releases fail to work every time you press the button.
