Ahh... nothing like an assignment on Sunday! Anyhoo, I've had a (mostly) pleasant jaunt in the Moskovsky Victory Park (southern part of the city), shooting ice water swimmers (they'll be the subject for another post). The weather now is decidedly un-winter-like - very warm and damp, and everything's thawing. I could write a lengthy post on how much it sucks because the ice isn't really melting down totally, but gets covered with a layer of water and thus becomes a slippery death trap for everyone careless - or desperate - enough to walk across it. That means pretty much the entire population of the city because not all of the major roads have been scraped clean, much less the park alleys.

On the ponds however, the ice remains strong enough for people to walk on and even fish.

This is what the park usually looks like in Spring - there's very little in the way of drainage, and wide swathes of it become inundated. However, it's late January for Pete's sake!.. (I can add that this month has been the one of extremities - biting cold in the first 10 days, heavy snowfall in the second 10-something days, and rapid thaw in the last few.

You can read of the park's history (which was pretty fascinating, I might add) over here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moskovsky_Victory_Park

Some kind of spiny plant growing along the bank. Looks like a dog-rose of some kind.

I've spent a few minutes photographing those berries, some of which have been apparently damaged by wildlife.

One parting glance at the largest pond and the buildings beyond before I move on to my objective... (to be concluded)
